LESEDI MODUPI, BORN IN 2003
ABOUT
Lesedi Modupi is a self-taught artist hailing from the vibrant city of Johannesburg, South Africa. With a passion for creativity and a keen eye for detail.
Drawing inspiration from his surroundings and the beauty of black children, his artwork is a captivating fusion of traditional techniques and modern aesthetics. While he is proficient in various artistic mediums, his preferred medium is the ball pen, which he skillfully wields to create intricate and mesmerising compositions on Fabriano paper.
Modupi has been selected as part of a small group of artists to participate in the esteemed Rand Merchant Bank Talent Unlocked mentorship program for 2024, which culminated in his debut gallery exhibition at the prestigious Art and About gallery in Sandton.
It was during his childhood that his passion for art first emerged, as he spent hours sketching portraits of those close to him. However, it wasn't until his high school years that he began to consider art as a viable career path, when he received his first payment for drawing a portrait of his teacher's daughter. What started as a personal hobby soon evolved into a lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence. Fuelled by his unwavering determination and a thirst for knowledge, Modupi embarked on a self-taught path, honing his skills through countless hours of practice and experimentation from his personal studio at home.
